Bali Revisited
Being my second trip to the so called island paradise, I had a fair idea of what to expect...hot, humid weather, stunning sunsets and cheap food and clothing. Despite this, and all my attempts not to get sick, I still did.
I first came to Bali 8 years ago but back then I was a very naive traveller. Staying in a 5 star hotel, I assumed the water was fine to brush my teeth in, to shower in and eat the food here. How wrong was I? Within days, I had acquired a really bad stomach ache with cramps, diarhhea, nausea and tiredness. This lasted for 3 days of the 7 I was here.
This time around I visited for the purpose of meeting my in-laws for the first time and spending time with them and my partner. Up until now, my partner and I have been dating for 13 years and despite previous attempts to meet his parents, several obstacles stood in our way such as moving to the UK and Covid19. But this time, it finally came to fruition.
There were 8 of us in our party, Duncan's parents, his sister and his brother with his fiancee and their 2yo. We booked 2 inter-connecting villas in Seminyak and for the most part they really were a home away from home, with 3 bedrooms in each villa with their own ensuite bathroom, a plunge pool, dining and lounge area to relax in. Both villas were air conditioned of course, a welcome relief after a day out, trudging the streets wearing nothing but a pair of shorts, flip-flops and singlet.
