Our Home

Duncan and I have moved, yet again, back up to the frosty north to a smallish town just south of Manchester called Macclesfield.

Macclesfield, once a medieval town was the centre of trade for the silk industry during the Industrial Revolution, so naturally, it has it's own canal, which merges with another canal, the Peak Forest Canal. Macc is on the foothills of one of the most stunning national parks, The Peak District. The whole area is one of the most beautiful in the whole of England in my opinion and it's on our doorstep.

We're about 180 miles (290km) from London, which takes about 3 and a half hours to drive there or 2 hours on the train. 20 mins train to Manchester. 30min taxi to Manchester Airport.

We managed to find a pet friendly property (rental), 3br + loft with parking for roughly half of what we were paying in London for a 1br, which is about to rise by a further 5%.

But we'll buy a house up here. House prices are cheap compared with London and we'll get a lot more house for a fraction of the cost.

We have dubbed Macclesfield a hidden gem. It's really up and coming with loads of funky shops, quality cafes and restaurants,

And Macc has everything we're ever going to need later in life. It's quite an upcoming area. We call it a hidden gem. It's much colder than London and it rains way more up north but we also get snow with more chance of having a white Christmas, but I guess that's the trade off for cheaper property. That said, the air is cleaner and the water tastes fresh, unlike the crap hard water you get in London.

Suits us. I'll be living closeby to one of my best friends, Emma, so that pleases me.

I cannot rave about Macclesfield enough.

It has a canal, of the same name. It's a lovely stretch of water that runs out to Marple, becoming the Peak Forst Canal out to Bugsworth Basin.

It has a hospital, dental and GP surgergies for all the medical attention I'm ever going to need for the remainder of my life.
