Salzburg, Austria
Mozarts Birthplace
Having grown up with baroque composers from an early age. and listening to all the great composers of the day, Mozart is by far my favourite. That said, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.5 was the music I used to dance around our marble coffee table to when I just 5 years old.
Mozart was born in Salzburg and spent much time there, though he also travelled to Italy but ended up living and dying in Vienna, Austria's capital.
It was a real treat to be able to visit Mozart's home town, to see where he was born and grew up.
Salzburg itself is a lovely city, small but with an air of dignity about it. It's a very clean city, a university town too, and in close proximity to the alps for those who like to ski.
My first trip was only a 2 night stay but I had one full day to explore the city but my interest was swayed to music during my brief visit and the music of my beloved baroque composers.
I flew with Ryanair, from London Stansted airport and landed in Salzburg about 2 hours later.
The night I arrived I enjoyed a lovely night of Mozart's music at the Mirrabell palace where he used to perform. The following day, I wandered aimlessly around the city but ensured I visited both of the Mozart museums, formerly his birthplace and residence for the time he remained in Salzburg.
