Old Amersham

About 90 minutes on the tube from London on the Metropolitan line, lies this charming village called Old Amersham. There is a new Amersham as well, which is where my partners' UK head office is located so this is his work turf if you like.

We stayed in a centuries old coaching inn called The Kings Arms, built around the turn of the 17th and 18 century during Elizabethan and Tudor times. I did read however that the oldest part of this inn dates back to the early 1400's.

As it was a 4 day trek from Manchester to London, coaching inns were an important part of the journey. They gave weary travellers a place to eat, drink, rest and let their horses do the same.

We opted to try out one of the historic suites which was actually one of the old stables. It was split level with the entrance and bathroom on the ground floor and a creaky old staircase to the bedroom above.

The village high street is dotted with loads of lovely cafes, pubs, Michelin star restaurants and dainty, boutique shops selling homewares and interiors. The village has also built a remembrance garden for those who battled and lost their lives during the Great War.

It's a bit of a hassle on the tube from London and does really require a car to get from the station to the village but I'm sure an Uber or taxi wouldn't be a problem.
