Royal on the Park
My birthday this year fell on a Wednesday. The following day the Lightscape festival event opened it's doors so I decided to book myself a room at this hotel, right in front of the City Gardens, plus a ticket to the light festival. This was the view facing east from my hotel room.
My room, a spa suite, was quite unique in that it spread out across the entire end of one of the floors so I had views looking both east and west. It had quite a strange setup due to it's narrow width and long length.
The main bedroom was in the west wing, the bathroom was split with shower and toilet in one room in the west wing, while the spa is located in a room by itself in the east wing. It was all kind of weird and impractical. As for the spa, well, it was ok. Certainly a spa designed for the solo traveller cause there was no way I could fit an extra person in that tiny spa. And I do mean tiny.
The room was quite dated but felt "Royal" enough. It felt classical, elegant inside, one could almost say timeless. And that's what I love about antiques, they are well built and they're timeless pieces.
So when you get this type of style in a hotel room, it kind of works. Everything was extremely comfortable, the chaise, the mattress, the chairs and the dining table was a lovely area to spread out and do some work.
The room lacked any real form of mood lighting. Instead of warm white, they used cold white in their globe selection. Cold white does not make for a warm, relaxing, calming environment.
Hotel Facilities
The spa was amazing. It was hot and if you sat in the right spot, you'd feel the jets and bubbles work their magic. The pool however was freezing cold. Ideal for a super hot summers day but not really intended for use any other time of the year which is a shame but even this pool was too cold for this swimmer.
I'd stay here again. I joined their loyalty club so I'll get a better rate next time I book. Next time, to fully utilise their offering ie the pool, I'd stay here over the summer. I'd like to try their regular rooms too.
