Vienna, Austria
Vienna was nothing short of amazing. A beautiful city, stunning architecture, lots of history, delicious food and drink. Vienna is one of the cleanest cities I've visited to date. And everyone is very polite and friendly. It was pure pleasure to visit Vienna. We shall return one day, after we've exhausted travel to other European countries. Our journey has only just begun with still loads more to see and explore.
In true budget British style, our flight to Vienna with Ryanair was delayed going out...and delayed, and delayed...apparently due to bad weather in Vienna at the time. So we arrived to our hotel at around midnight.
Thankfully I booked a brand new hotel, open less than a year, a Citadines group hotel right in the city. I've stayed in Citadines Sydney Airport multiple times. It's probably my favourite airport hotel in Sydney.
We had eateries across the road, even a late night takeaway that served very long sausages in bread rolls...and they served beer so we grabbed some grub, and headed back to our fresh, new hotel on the outskirts of the city. It was mostly convenient during the day but, being a family zone, everything shuts really early.
But our hotel was just lovely for the first 2 nights, before the power completely cut out on our third and final night luckily. Yep. Needless to say, I'm expecting my refund of £100, the nightly rate for that hotel sometime soon. But for the majority of our stay, it was lovely. Everything was new and fresh with a lovely walk in rain shower.
Citadines, Vienna
It was this hotel that inspired us to purchase our own single duvets for our super king size bed. From now on, I can no longer be accused of stealing the duvet or him having to endure all my man smells, and I his for that matter.
I bought a pair to try along with 1000TC Egyptian cotton covers, it's like sleeping in a hotel like this.
We can still cuddle when we want, but we have our own private sleeping space or pod as I like to call it. It's just the ticket. Trust me, the Germans (Austrians), certainly know a thing or two about efficiency when it comes to sleep. Works well for us.
Vienna Schnitzel and Bier
A trip to Vienna is not complete without tasting a local veal schnitzel. And that bier I drank, so good I had to have another one.
Kutschkermarkt
Beautifully presented markets in Vienna selling loads of charcuterie, cheese, wine, bier, homewares, clothing...and striking displays as you can see before you, in this case tins of sardines.
12 inches of hot, spicy meat in a freshly baked roll.
Pedestrian Traffic Lights
Thought this was very cute! Very accepting and welcoming.
Opera House
And last but not least is The Eagle, one of Vienna's men only bars. As a gay man, we tend to as a species, want to hang out and around with other gay men. Make sense? So a space like this is very important and unfortunately Britain no longer offers such an arrangement.
